Ermine Street

The busy main road of Ermine Street runs through the village north-south. Known as Herman Street and Old Street in years gone by, there was a Julian's Bower of which no trace remains. Most of Ermine Street, within the village boundaries is part of the Conservation Area, first designated in Appleby in 1972. The road is lined either side by some nice examples of the Estate Cottages and the earlier stone cottages. Roads lead off Ermine Street into the rest of the village.
